Synopsis:
Nina is a ballerina whose passion for dance rules every facet of her life. When her dance company’s artistic director decides to replace the prima ballerina for their opening production of “Swan Lake”, Nina is his first choice. However Nina has competition in newcomer Lily. While Nina is perfect for the role of the White Sawn, Lily personifies the Black Swan. A rivalry between the two transforms into a twisted friendship. Nina pursues perfection as a ballet dancer, which fits her role as a White Swan. Her every movement and emotion is controlled and accurate. However Nina's jealousy toward Lily along with frustration with her Mom’s infantilizing and controlling behavior causes Nina to become dark, violent, and territorial: her true persona. The final scene shows Nina with blood oozing from her stomach, saying " I was perfect. I felt it.”

Direction:
As a framing device I started with clean white paper, slowly tearing it to reveal black wings underneath. The white paper represents Nina’s restricted controlled life.
